Japan's climate is humid and rainy. Most of Japan has four seasons but with the wide range of latitude of the country the climate differs from north to south. Hokkaido has harsh winters and mild summers. The island of Honshu has short but cold winters and humid summers. Kyushu has a humid subtropical climate. The Ryukyu Islands have hot summers and mild winters.

In Northern Japan, there are many mountains. In Central and Southern Japan the land is mostly flat plain which are used for agriculture.
